The Club is currently closed while undergoing refurbishment. However, its facilities remain available for hire - please see details here.
Founded on 1st October 1884 on the 'Old Bank House' on the High Street, the Dartford Conservative Club became the premier place for working-class supporters of the Conservative Party to meet and socialise in Dartford. The Club outgrew its premises and relocated to its current site in Spital Street in 1934, taking over a property that had previously been a private residence. The Club premises were expanded in the 1970s to give it the spacious ballroom it has today.
The Club has hosted political meetings, darts and snooker competitions, birthday parties, wedding receptions and nights out for generations of members. Numerous senior political figures have visited the Club: Margaret Thatcher visited regularly she was the Parliamentary candidate in Dartford in the early 1950s and also returned for the Club's centenary in 1984. Edward Heath visited the Club while Prime Minister in 1973.
The bar and lounge form the heart of the Club, providing a place for members and their guests to socialise in relaxed surroundings. The bar is fully-stocked, offering a range of drinks together with bar snacks.
The lounge is currently undergoing refurbishment to give it a fresh, updated appearance. It will contain a combination of the Club's traditional banquette seating with an arrangement of tables, chairs and sofas. The décor will reflect the Club's - and Dartford's - fantastic heritage. We shall also look to enhance the lounge's capacity by adding a snug and bringing more natural light into the room. We will be renewing our range of drinks and shall look to expand our dining offer.
We are ambitious to make our lounge one of the best places to socialise in the area.
Entertainment has long been an important part of what the Club offers to its members. We have regularly hosted quality live music on Saturday evenings and we are looking forward to expanding our offering to ensure that there are even more performances that appeal to our membership.
We want to offer a variety of entertainment for our members and we shall be reviving the popular quiz nights together with karaoke, cabaret nights, comedy evenings, race nights and more.
We have a dart board in our lounge and a range of board games for those who would prefer some quieter entertainment among friends. We have a TV in our lounge to show all the big events, sporting and otherwise.
Snooker is a hugely important part of our Club and we are proud that we have got three full-sized (and newly reclothed) snooker tables.
We also offer superb value, with play available at £2 per hour of lights. Our venue is registered with the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association and whether you are a regular player, a beginner or wanting to play it for the first time, the Club is a great place to enjoy snooker.
We don't think that there is anywhere in Dartford that beats it.
